Sound familiar?

You're not imagining it.

  • You don't even notice you're doing it until your nails are already gone — it happens on autopilot while reading, watching TV, or driving.
  • Or the opposite: you feel the urge build like pressure, bite to get relief, then feel bad about it a minute later.
  • Bitter-tasting polish, gloves, and 'just stop' willpower have all been tried — and none of them stuck once life got stressful or you forgot you were even wearing them.
  • You hide your hands, decline manicures, or feel a flash of shame when someone notices — this isn't just cosmetic, it affects how you show up.
  • Generic 'quit nail biting' content doesn't ask whether you even notice yourself doing it, which changes everything about what actually works.

How it works

A few quiet steps.

01

Answer a short set of adaptive questions about your specific habit (nails, cuticles, lips, cheeks, skin), how much you notice it happening, what triggers it, and what your fingers or mouth actually seem to want.

02

We build a personal formulation — your subtype (automatic vs. tension-driven), your trigger map, your sensory payoff, and what's failed before and why.

03

You get a guided audio session using the technique best matched to your pattern: awareness-building and stimulus control if the habit runs on autopilot, urge-surfing and competing-response training if it's tension-driven.

04

A 3-part arc moves from making the invisible habit visible, to installing a competing response your hands actually reach for, to future-pacing pride in your own hands as part of who you are.

Questions

Frequently asked.

Is this a medical or dermatological treatment?

No. This is a relaxation and self-hypnosis-style audio tool aimed at building awareness and installing a competing response for nail/cuticle/lip/cheek biting and mild skin picking. It is not medical or dermatological treatment, not therapy, and not a substitute for a doctor or a BFRB-trained therapist — especially if there's any wound, infection, or bleeding involved.

What if my skin picking or hair pulling is more severe than 'mild' — open wounds, scarring, or bald patches?

Please see a doctor or a therapist who specializes in body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) first. This tool is built for common nail/cuticle/lip/cheek biting and mild skin picking, not for excoriation disorder or trichotillomania with significant tissue damage or hair loss — those deserve dedicated clinical care, and we'll flag this during intake.

I don't even realize I'm doing it half the time — will this still work?

Yes — this is actually one of the two main patterns this pack is built around. If you're mostly unaware when it happens (habits done during reading, screens, driving), the sessions lead with awareness-training and stimulus control rather than urge-management, because you can't manage an urge you don't notice yet.

I've tried bitter nail polish and gloves before and it didn't stick — why would this be different?

The intake specifically asks what you've tried and what broke down — forgetting you had polish on, taking gloves off without thinking, the deterrent losing its bite after a few days. The session is built to address that exact failure point (usually a missing awareness or replacement step) rather than repeating the same deterrent-only approach.

Is this suitable for teens or kids?

This pack is written for adults using it on themselves. Teens can often use the same core techniques with lighter, less clinical language and a parent's involvement in noticing patterns; a separate teen/kid-adapted version would soften the intake questions and shorten sessions — ask us about that if you're looking for a child or teen.

How long are sessions and how does the 3-part series work?

Sessions default to about 12 minutes. The series is designed to be used over one to two weeks, one part at a time, though you can relisten to any part as often as it helps.
